YOUNG CARERS
A young carer is someone aged 18 or under who helps look after a relative with a disability, illness, mental health condition or substance misuse. This can also apply to children with siblings who take up the time of the parent which may have an impact on them.
Support within school:
Young Carers Lead: Jackie Molloy
Within school we aim to identify and understand the responsibilities of any Young Carer within our school. We aim to support these Young Carers with providing opportunities to be listened to and given space to talk. Young Carers within our school will be supported and signposted to whole family resources and local services.
We support our Young Carers by running sessions monthly straight after school for an hour and a half. Within this time the children will have time to play, take part in art and craft activities and socialise with other children in a similar situation. We will be working alongside an Early Help Young Carers family partner to assist and support sessions we hold.
We recognise that not all Young Carers may not want to be identified in a group. 1:1 support is always available for all Young Carers regardless if they choose to attend the sessions.
If you feel your child is a Young Carer, then please contact Jackie Molloy
