April 2023

Welcome back Amethyst class, we hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable Easter break and have come back ready to learn for the Summer Term! Myself and Miss Clarke are very excited to see you continue to make amazing  progress in your learning as you have done in the spring term.

The topics for this half term look very inspiring as our overarching theme is 'Creating a Better World'. Please find the link to the Summer 1 Curriculum Overview here: Year 5 Summer 1 Curriculum.

As we mention regularly, it is important that you take responsibility for your learning by completing your homework. Each week, you should complete your five weekly reads, your maths and English homework using the Atom platform and your weekly spellings. New homework is set on a Friday and also due on a Friday (this includes weekly spelling tests). We will also start to set regular TT Rockstar competitions in order for you to develop your knowledge of your times tables. If your homework is incomplete, you will be asked to stay in during your own time to get it done.

Please take note that our PE days have now changed to Thursday and Friday. You may come to school in your PE kit on these days only.

The children have showcased their Spring 2 learning by creating another set of double page spreads. The amount of knowledge and information within them are incredible and the creativity shown is spectacular!

During Science Week, the children manipulated paper to see how much weight it could accommodate in different formations. The maximum was 14kg! They were very very surprised that one single piece of paper would bear so much weight!

February 2023

Well done Amethyst for returning this year with such a positive attitude to learning. Myself and Miss Clarke are incredibly proud of everything you have achieved. Meeting all your parents and families at parent's evening was lovely, and it was a pleasure to share all your amazing learning, targets and achievements.

Next half term will be very exciting as we have a visit from a local artist and Science week will be happening.

Also, a reminder about taking responsibility for your own learning through completing your weekly tasks at home. These include: your five weekly reads, TT Rockstars, your weekly Maths and English homework (which is set on a Friday and due on a Friday) and your weekly spellings. If these are incomplete, you will be asked to catch up on them during your own time at lunch time.

PE will continue to be on a Monday and Thursday, these are the only days children should be coming to school in their PE kit. Ensure you are dress appropriately for the weather that day.

Have a wonderful half term and we are looking forward to welcoming you back after a well-rested half term!

In DT, the children created models of Mayan temples using a range of different materials, including: clay, Lego, recycling materials and K-Nexx. If you are in school at any point, these on display in the library.

To showcase the children's learning, in History, Science and RE, children have created double-page spreads. They look absolutely wonderful and are incredibly informative!

January 2023

Welcome back Amethyst!

Mrs Maloney and Miss Clarke are so excited to be working with you as your teachers and Miss Conway as your LSA.

The overall topic this term is 'The Mayans'.

Please remember that you are expected to be doing your five weekly reads at home as well as completing TT Rockstars in your spare time. Homework will be given on a Friday and will be due the following Friday using Atom Learning.. If it is not completed, you will be doing the homework on a Thursday lunchtime. You should be spending at least 15 minutes on each homework in order to do the best you can. Children will provided with weekly spellings, they can practice these in anyway they choose, as all children learn in different ways!

PE will still be on a Monday and Thursday. Please ensure you are dressed appropriately with correct footwear. It is currently the winter months, so make sure you have warm clothing!

Autumn Term

Thank you Amethyst  for a brilliant half term!

You have settled into Year 5 wonderfully and are  showing The Tithe Farm Way. I am very proud of the work you have achieved so far and for performing your class assembly well!

Next half term looks very exciting, and I am looking forward to delving into the new topics with you.

In addition to the topics we will be learning in school, you will also have weekly English and maths homework to complete on Atom Learning. You will receive your login details after half term. The homework will be given on a Wednesday and will be due the following Wednesday. Those who do not submit on time will have the opportunity to complete it at Homework Club on a Thursday.

As well as weekly maths and English homework, we will still be expecting you to complete 5 weekly reads, where an adult must sign your reading log. Additionally, you will have your weekly spellings and should be practicing your timetables on TT Rockstars.

Our PE days are still Monday and Thursday, so please come into school in your PE kit on those days.

I hope you have a lovely half term and I am looking forward to seeing you all when we are back.

Welcome to  Amethyst Class Page

It is always exciting coming back to school and seeing our friends. This year the class will be taught by Mrs Smith supported by Miss Conway , Mrs Coleman and Miss Clarke .

The children in Year 5 have the option of walking home on their own , however in order to do this their parent/carer must complete the google form or  the permission slip .

We will be having our P.E lessons on Monday ( indoors ) and Thursdays ( outdoors ). Please come in to school dressed in your P.E kit.

We expect you to be reading five times a week at home. Information regarding spellings and homework will be shared in the upcoming weeks. A homework questionnaire has been sent to parents/carers to complete.

Our class assembly will be on the 17th October and invitations will be sent out closer to the date.
