Garnet

Welcome to Garnet Class' page 2025-2026!

We are very excited about our new learning in Year 3! Garnet Class is taught by Miss Hussain and supported by Mrs Hawthorne & Miss Tilcock.

Our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. Please come to school in your PE kit, which consists of a red t-shirt, black shorts/black jogging bottoms, black trainers and your red school jumper/cardigan if desired. Please ensure that your child arrives at school in a PE kit on both days.

Reading is incredibly important and we are trying hard to further develop our reading skills. Please bring your reading books into school each day. Children are expected to read 5 times a week for 15 minutes, please sign your child's reading record. These will be collected on the same day every week, which will be a Friday. If your child doesn’t have five reads signed by an adult at home, this may result in them missing break time and staying in to read. Some of us will be completing accelerated reader quizzes on our books to develop our understanding of what we have read. On the reverse of the children's you will find your child's account details and accelerated reader log in if your child is quizzing.

Homework is set on Atom Learning, a website that you can access at home. Logins are found on the back of the reading logs and homework is set once a week. One week we will focus on Maths, and the next week we will focus on English. Please complete this at home, if your child doesn't have access to a device, the library can be used in school on Monday lunchtimes.

We have an exciting topic 'How the World has Changed', we will be learning about The Stone Age to The Iron Age in History as well as 'Animals including Humans' in Science. We will be looking at what nutrition animals including humans need. We will even be looking at why skeletons and muscles are important for support, protection and movement. In History, we will be looking The Stone Age to The Iron Age, this is an exciting topic where we will explore what life was life at the time and what resources they used during this time. Please refer to our curriculum map for Year 3 to see more of our topics. We cannot wait to share our wonderful learning during our oracy endpoint, the date is to be confirmed.

To add to the excitement of being in Year 3, we will be going to the Chiltern Open Air Museum (please see the letter sent). If you are able to volunteer, please let a member of the Year 3 team know.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
