Summer

Art Week

Jade class had a lot of fun creating their own fantasy worlds for art week! We used paper mache around a balloon to make our world. Then we painted and decorated them. I am so impressed with the team work skills everyone showed when creating our worlds. Below are some pictures of what we created.

WELCOME BACK AFTER HALF TERM!

I hope you all had a lovely half term and enjoyed the Jubilee celebrations with your family and friends. After a very busy half term, we all deserved to have fun and rest. This half term is set to be a fun one! We have lots of great things planned for us to learn about. Please see the attached link to find out about all we have planned this half term:

Summer Science

As our topic for this half term was working scientifically, Jade class decided to carry out an investigation. We wanted to find out what the best material would be to protect an egg without it breaking. We worked in teams to create the best packages to protect our eggs. We found that bubble wrap was the best material because it kept our eggs safe. Below are some pictures showing how we carried out our investigation!

Wow, I cannot believe how quickly summer term has arrived! Jade class have come back into school with such a positive attitude towards their learning and I am so impressed. They continue to show me what amazing role models they can be and demonstrate the 'Tithe Farm Way' beautifully.

Our overarching theme for this whole term is 'Creating a Better World'. For the first part of the summer term our topic is 'Child of Our Time'. We have been comparing our own childhood experiences to the childhood of children in the Tudor times. We have lots of local links to the Tudors and we are hoping to explore Dunstable and find out some interesting facts about Henry VIII. Watch this space!

In science our topic is 'Working Scientifically' and we have been very busy doing lots of different experiments, while using the key vocabulary we have learnt. I can see we have quite a few curious scientists in our class!

We have been reading 'The Iron Man' by Ted Hughes in English this half term. So far we have read up to chapter 3 and explored the language Ted Hughes uses. Currently we are planning our own alternative endings to 'The Iron Man' before we find out what actually happens. I am interested to see if any of the children's endings are similar to the story!

Keep your eye on this page for any other updates on the children's learning that is taking place.

Spring

Super Scientists

In science, our topic has been sound. We experimented with cups and string by creating our own telephones to communicate to people across the other side of the classroom! We had great fun exploring how sound can travel through the string to the other persons cup.

Greek Pottery

Over the past few weeks Jade class have been creating Greek pottery using clay and decorating them with traditional Ancient Greek patterns with paint. I am so impressed with the effort they have put into these!

British Museum Trip

Year 3 had a fantastic time exploring historical artefacts at the British Museum. I am so proud of how they presented the school and showed everyone there how to be ready, respectful and safe. The parts we loved the most were the Ancient Greeks and Romans as these have been our topics over the spring term. We saw things that we had learnt about in school, while also discovering and learning new facts we did not know!

Our Learning

I am so impressed with Jade classes learning over the last few weeks. We have had a lot of achievements to celebrate such as receiving learning friends, earning pen licences and achieving above and beyond certificates. Above are just a few pictures to show the brilliant learning they have been doing.

Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a lovely, relaxing break over Christmas and got all the presents you wished for from Father Christmas!

This term our new learning will be focussed on how 'The World Has Changed'. Year 3s topic for this half term will focus around the Romans and how they were important. This will help us to see how they have shaped the world we live in today.

Our English learning will be focussed around Roman Myths and we will be looking at the famous Gods and Goddesses of the time. Who do you think the most interesting God/Goddess will be?

As the weather is still cold and wet, we would like to ask that children have a spare pair of joggers, socks and shoes in school. This is because the children will be playing tag rugby outside in PE this half term and may get wet and muddy, so they will be able to change into some comfortable clothes if this occurs.

Just a reminder children should be reading everyday at home with an adult and should have their reading record signed. Please also make sure you bring in your reading record and book into school everyday.

We have so much fun learning to do this half term and I am excited to see the amazing work we can create. Jade class have already come back with such a positive attitude towards their learning this week and I am so impressed, keep up the hard work!

Kind regards,

Miss Mollison

Whipsnade Zoo Trip

We have been learning lots of new things this half term. On 29th September 2021, we went on a school trip to the zoo. We had lots of fun learning about all of the animals there. This helped us with our Geography learning as our topic is 'What a Wonderful World' and we have been learning about all of the biomes.

Our Learning

Jade class should be so proud of all of the amazing learning they have completed this half term.

In science we have been learning about animals including humans. We have looked at both human and animal skeletons and identified the different scientific names of bones in our bodies.

In English, we have been looking at the story 'The Great Kapok Tree'. We wrote our own dilemma stories that were set in the rainforest like the book. Jade class had some amazing and imaginative ideas for their stories! Some children got to read their stories in our class assembly and presented these fantastically to the children and parents.

Jade class have been getting creative in art by creating their own collages. We used a variety of materials to make these including tissue paper, feathers, coloured card and many more materials! We had lots of fun experimenting with what materials would work well in our collages and what we would use each item for.

Children in Need

For Children in Need the children dressed up as a teacher in the school, while the teachers dressed as the children! The children made a fabulous effort with their teacher outfits for children in need.

Welcome to Jade Class

 2021/2022

Welcome to Year 3 and Lower Key Stage 2!

It is going to be a very new and exciting time for everyone. I cannot wait to see everyone again and to hear all the lovely things you have been getting up to over the summer holidays! I am looking forward to welcoming you into our new classroom and beginning our journey into Year 3.

My name is Miss Mollison and I will be your class teacher for this year. Some of you may already remember me teaching you before the summer holidays. Mrs Rowe will be your Learning Support Assistant. We are both extremely excited to get to know you all!

We return to School on Monday the 6th of September 2021.

Our PE days are Monday and Thursday, so children are able to come into school on those days in their school PE kit.

Our spelling tests will take place on Friday and children will receive their spellings alongside their homework every Friday and is to be returned by the following Wednesday. Homework will not be given out until week beginning 20th September. All homework will be set on Google Classroom and children will be shown how to access this during our computing lessons. More details to follow.

I encourage children to read daily in school as well as at home. Children will receive their reading records in the first week of school and once they have read with an adult we would like a parent/carer to sign the record to support this. Every child should read 5 times a week with an adult.

Please ensure that your child comes to school every day with the following items;

A water bottle

Reading Book

Reading Record

A suitable coat (weather appropriate).

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have. Attached is our 'Welcome to Year 3,' booklet which will answer any more queries in more detail.

See you on the 6th!
