Welcome to Emerald Class!
We are a Year 4 class. Our teacher is Miss Owen and our teaching assistant is Miss Falvey.
Visit our Curriculum Page to see what we're learning about at the moment.
School drop off and pick-up will be through the end Key Stage 2 door, nearest to the gate. Your coat pegs are located next to the Assembly Hall.
Swimming
We go swimming on a Monday afternoon (12:45-2:45). Children need to bring a swimming suit, towel and hat to school on this day. (Girls must have a one-piece suit) Children will be told if they need to bring goggles with them for their lessons.
PE
Our PE day is Tuesday. Please come into school dressed in your school PE kits on this day.
School PE kit includes: black jogging bottoms/shorts, a red t-shirt (either plain or with school logo), trainers suitable for outdoor use and your regular school jumper.
Homework
Reading: It is expected that children read at home a minimum of 5 times a week. This should then be recorded in your Reading Record and signed by a parent or carer, ready to be checked in school on a Monday morning each week.
Spellings: These will be given out at the beginning of each half term via Google Classroom for children to learn, as well as EdShed assignments available for children to practise that week's spellings. The children will be tested in school each Friday.
Homework: There will be weekly Maths homework posted on Google classrooms on a Friday that will be due in the following week. There is also a homework grid for the half term posted on Google Classrooms. The children can choose one task off of the grid to complete each week.
After school clubs will be running until 15th July.
This half term we have been learning all about water! How rivers are formed and where they go; why it rains and what happens to water in the water cycle; and how we can reduce our water waste, by making water filters.
This half term we will be learning all about the Ancient Greeks and what they did for us today!
In Art we have started looking at their pottery, and are beginning to design our own
This half term we have been learning about famous landmarks and architecture in Britain. We had a visit from an architect to tell us all about how buildings are designed. We also sketched some famous buildings in Art, looking at light and shade.
In Science, we have been looking at States of Matter and learning all about solids, liquids and gases. We did an experiment to prove that gas has weight.
In this topic, we learnt all about mountains, including where they are in the world, what the definition of a mountain is and the different physical features of mountains.
In PE, we focused on improving our strength, endurance and team building! We're planning a 10km hike to put our new skills to the test!
