Spring Two

Welcome to our Spring 2 term! As the weather begins to change and new life starts to bloom, we’re diving into some magical and meaningful themes with our wonderful children. The Morning Group will be exploring growth and life cycles through Watch Me Grow, while the Afternoon Group journeys into fairy tales and fantasy with Princes and Princesses. Plus, we’ll be celebrating World Book Day, Science Week, Mother’s Day, and Easter together!


🌱 Morning Group – Watch Me Grow

From planting seeds to observing real chicks, our children will be learning all about life cycles, healthy growth, and caring for living things.

Weekly Highlights:

  • Babies to Big Kids – Exploring how we’ve changed and grown

  • Planting Adventures – Beans, cress, radishes, sunflowers & pumpkins

  • Celebrations – Pancake Day, World Book Day, Mother’s Day & Easter

  • Life Cycles – Butterflies, frogs, chicks

  • Science Week Fun – Camouflage caterpillars, patterns, and problem-solving


👑 Afternoon Group – Princes & Princesses

Full of storytelling, role-play, and royal creativity, this theme will bring fairy tales to life while building confidence, kindness, and communication.

Weekly Highlights:

  • Fairy Tales & Friends – Zog, Rapunzel, Cinderella, and more

  • Creative Role Play – Castles, dragons, magic mirrors, and royal tea parties

  • Celebrations – World Book Day, Pancake Day, Mother’s Day & Easter

  • Royal Maths & Crafts – Shield puzzles, crown threading, egg sorting, and daffodil painting


💬 Communication & Language (Both Groups)

  • Sharing favourite stories and fairy tale characters

  • Talking about families, love, and kindness

  • Exploring new vocabulary from nature, science, and fantasy

  • Describing growing things and explaining how we care for them


✍️ Literacy Learning

  • World Book Day celebrations 📚

  • Retelling stories like Mr Wolf’s Pancakes, Cinderella, The Hungry Caterpillar, and Once There Were Giants

  • Easter-themed storytelling: eggs, chicks, and bunnies

  • Sorting baby items, counting beans and pancakes

  • Castle building with 2D shapes

  • Flower counting and frog lily pad number games

  • Pattern making with Easter eggs and matching activities

  • Shield puzzles, egg carton number games, and 1:1 correspondence practice


🧠 Personal, Social & Emotional Development

  • Talking about how we’ve grown and changed

  • Teamwork in pancake-making and planting

  • Caring for living things—plants, animals, and each other

  • Expressing love and gratitude with Mother’s Day cards

  • Believing in ourselves and learning the importance of kindness


🏃 Physical Development

  • Playdough fun: dragons, flowers, pancakes, frogs, and Easter bunnies

  • Cutting, threading, and shaping with a range of tools

  • Washing and dressing babies

  • “Frog jumps” movement games and dough disco for strong hands

  • Easter egg threading and cutting skills


🌍 Understanding the World

  • Human and animal life cycles

  • Real-life planting and observation of changes over time

  • Celebrations from around the world: Mother’s Day and Easter

  • Small world and sensory trays: ponds, gardens, castles, and fairy-tale lands

  • Science Week: hands-on activities like camouflage, symmetry, and patterns


🎨 Expressive Arts & Design

  • Handprint flowers and Mother’s Day cards

  • Watercolour story art and paper plate dragons

  • Butterfly symmetry printing and tissue crafts

  • Cinderella shoes, magic wands, and decorated pancakes

  • Easter creations: chicks, bunnies, and eggs galore!
