Welcome to OWLS' class page

 

We will be updating it regularly so please look out for new content.

Our class Teachers are Mrs. Russell and Mrs. Harper  Our Learning Support Assistant is Miss Colett.

Our classroom is located at the end of the older wing of the school so when collecting children, please make sure you come through the side gates.

 

PE

We have PE lessons on Tuesday and Thursday so please remember the PE kits. 

You should have a T-shirt, shorts and footwear that is suitable for PE.

 

HOMEWORK

Homework will be given out on Fridays and ideally should be back the following Wednesday.

If however there are any problems, please come and speak to staff. 

We know how busy parents are... We can help.

It is also vital that children read their books everyday. We see this year after year, that children who read at home progress quicker and are more at ease with other areas of the curriculum.

SUMMER TERM

Who wants to go to the seaside?

 

We received a mysterious suitcase with lots of things from the seaside. The suitcase was very old and we didn't know who might have left it. Maybe a time traveler left it for us to explore?

We named and labelled all the objects. Now it's time to learn more about seaside, its present and past.

In Art lesson, we went outside to explore what is a landscape. We sat down in the grass and like true Impressionists, we sketched the lines and small elements of what we saw.

It was super fun!

Take a look at our concept map. This is on display in our classroom and helps us to see the links between the many areas of learning visited throughout our topic. It also helps to introduce some of the new vocabulary we will encounter.

SPRING TERM

After Christmas holidays we came back to school only to find out someone was staying in our classroom! Who could this be? Where did they come from? We investigated... Later on we received a letter from two explorers who explained what they did in our room and why...

It turned out the explorers wanted to travel to Antarctica but did not know how to prepare.

So they asked us for help...

We read information books to find out about the continent of Antarctica.

One way of learning that we love is TASK TIME. We get to access all sorts of activities, such as Art, DT, Maths, Phonics. We choose which activity we want to do and we try to do as many as we can. In TASK TIME we practice already learnt skills and have fun working together!

ART WORK

This term we have been exploring icy landscapes. As part of our art exploration we have made textures using different materials such as glue, paper, glitter and sand. Then we added Polar animals.

We also learnt how to saw gloves for Inuits. Uki and Alisi- our Inuit friends from Greenland asked us to make them some gloves.

 

AUTUMN TERM  

    ME AND MY TOWN

Our learning is based around our town of Houghton Regis. In English we have been exploring features of information texts so we can write a leaflet about our town!

We have been looking into the history of Houghton Regis and went on a local walk. We had a visit from some local citizens who helped us explore our town.
